Below we detail the features and functionality of our Red Hat Enterprise Linux server hosting accounts. The Linux server runs the Ensim Pro Appliance administration control panel, regarded as one of the best tools on the market to maintain your hosting account. Our robust server specification is available upon request.

Generous Web Space Allowance

All of our accounts offer a generous allowance of web space on our servers, with all accounts being upgradeable should you require this in the future as your site expands.

High Monthly Bandwidth

Each time your website is accessed data is transferred across the Internet, and our transfer limits are one of the most generous around. Your account is allocated a high bandwidth allowance per month, and less than 1% of our customers exceed this. If you require hosting for a larger site that you know would be exceeding the limits of our current packages, we can easily accommodate you and will be happy to arrange a custom price for you. Custom hosting accounts are available for up to 1 Terabyte per month (1000Gb) of data transfer. Please contact us for details. Data transfer can be monitored in real-time via your control panel. Should you exceed your limit you will also automatically be advised of this via an e-mail. Occasional slight exceeding of your limit may be ignored, but if this appears to be abused then you will be asked to upgrade to the most appropriate package that reflects your bandwidth usage or charged for your excess usage.

Autoresponders

Auto responders reply to incoming email instantly and automatically. You can set up an unlimited number of auto responders from within your control panel. This is handled by the very popular Majordomo program.

Email Addresses

Configure email addresses at each of your domain name(s) as required. Mail to any address can be sent either to a POP3 mailbox supplied by us or forwarded to an existing email address elsewhere. Mail sent to an address for which you have not configured a specific destination can be sent to a default location.

Unlimited Mailing Lists

Mailing lists enable single messages to be delivered to multiple recipients in an organisation. An unlimited number of email lists can be created on your account. Mailing Lists are commonly used to circulate topic discussions. A mailing list includes a set list of members. Whenever a list member post an email message to the mailing list email address, that email message is distributed to all list members.

Web Based Control Panel

We use the latest version of Ensim's Webppliance Professional control panel software. Your own personal control panel is accessible via http://yourdomain.com/Admin. From here you can manage all aspects of your accounts via an easy to use online interface which will allow you to configure e-mail, passwords, sub-domains, administer databases and much more.

Microsoft FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions

FrontPage 2002 extensions are available for installation on our web server hosting accounts. This allows you and your customers to take advantage of the dynamic features and publication wizard in Microsoft's web page authoring software. Please note that if this is enabled on your account then FTP will be disabled as FTP access will corrupt the Frontpage Extensions

POP3 & IMAP Mailboxes

A number of POP3 & IMAP Mailboxes are included (dependant on account type) so you may direct all mail to your domain as you wish. POP3 (Post Office Protocol, version 3) and IMAP (Internet Messaging Access Protocol) mail servers store incoming email messages until users download them to their computers. In addition to storing incoming email messages, the IMAP server allows users to archive email messages in folders, share mailboxes with other users, access multiple mail servers at one time and more efficiently access email attachments.

Hosting on Linux Servers

A Linux (Unix) virtual server provides a robust and stable hosting platform ideal for the vast majority of web sites. Includes support for CGI Scripts, PHP, MySQL and FrontPage.

SPAM Filtering

Unsolicited commercial email commonly referred to as SPAM is the Internet equivalent of junk mail. Our mail servers consult with a world wide database of know spammers such as Spamcop and ORDB and will refuse email sent from known perpetrators. This reduces the amount of junk mail in your inbox increasing your productivity.

Sub-domains

Subdomains allow you to separate your hosting account into sections in the format http://sub.yourdomain.com. All sub-domains have full CGI support, are administered via your site control panel and their bandwidth is calculated as part of the total domain usage.

RAW Logfile Access

All accounts have direct access within their webspace to their webserver logfiles. This allows you to view details of all visitors to your site, and also link to any other third party statistic programs that you may wish to use.

Sendmail SMTP Server

Sendmail is an SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) mail server that routes SMTP email messages through the Internet to be stored on a mail server, such as POP3 or IMAP. SMTP is the most common email protocol on the Internet. All accounts have SMTP enabled on them as standard so you don't have to worry about changing e-mail account settings if you're regularly changing ISP's

Miva Merchant

Miva Merchant is a dynamic browser based shopfront development and management system that allows merchants to create multiple online shops from anywhere in the world where there is internet access. Miva Merchant has a complete set of wizards to simplify the process of building your online shop. The browser based administration interface provides access to an array of more sophisticated tools to maintain your catalogue. Upsell merchandising and order fulfillment are included. And Miva's modular architecture enables you with deep-down customization for your storefront.

Online File Manager

Enables you to access, create and remove files and directories on your domain through a graphical web-based interface. Allows uploading / downloading of files from any web-based interface - ideal for changing your site if you're on the move and do not have access to an FTP client.

Backup / Restore Manager

Although we perform regular backups ourselves of all accounts, you may also wish to keep your own backup copy of your site, for example in the event that you are making some major changes to your domain and you may need to revert back to the old version. The backup / restore manager allows you to back up and restore your domain data to a local or remote system by either downloading the backup file or sending it to a specified FTP server. The backup saves your home directory data, email & settings, web site content and MySQL database. Regular scheduled backups are also available.

User-definable SPAM Filters

Spam is any unsolicited message. You can control spam by creating spam filters to block specific email originating from outside the server.

User Accounts

You can create separate accounts for each of the users of your domain. As opposed to having to configure email aliases and routing yourself, your users have access to their own control panel where they can configure such items themselves, thus reducing the workload of the site administrator. You may also assign them web space under your domain where they then get their own FTP login details to upload their files. Users' web space is viewable in the form http://mydomain.com/~user. Bandwidth and disk usage for user accounts is monitored along with that of your main account.

Vacation Autoresponders

Vacation Autoresponders create automated email responses that replies to incoming email messages during times when the user is not available to check and reply to email messages. This feature is most commonly used when a user intends to be unavailable for an extended period of time.

Webmail

Squirrel Mail is an email client that uses IMAP to provide your email account users with access to their email messages directly over the Internet. This means that you can send and receive e-mail from any browser or computer, very much like Hotmail.

CGI Scripting In Perl, C and Python

Each account you create is equipped with its own CGI directory, allowing you to install and develop your own CGI scripts. We support the three most popular CGI scripting languages, Perl, C/C++ and Python.

Server Side Includes

Server Side Includes enable the addition of dynamic elements to HTML web pages. Automatically insert dates and file information as well as calling external programs such as hit counters.

PHP Scripting

PHP is a powerful server side scripting language ideal for the creation of dynamic data driven web sites. Version 4 is installed on our servers.

MySQL Database Server

MySQL is a widely used relational database management system for SQL databases. A relational database stores data in separate tables rather than in one big table. A database management system allows you to add, access and process data stored in an SQL database. phpMyAdmin is provided with your account to allow you to set up, configure and view your databases. All accounts use Version 4.1 of mySQL

128 Bit SSL Secure Server

The personal secure server option provides secure space under your own domain name, Victoria NET Consulting can provide SSL certificates through our rapidSSL program. Victoria NET Consulting can issue you with 128bit secure certificates.

Server Side PGP Encryption

Store and handle sensitive data such as credit card information in an encrypted state. Encrypt email such that only you can read it.

WAP Server

Serve information to people on the move via Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) enabled devices.

WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is a communications protocol that allows mobile phones and other wireless terminals to access the Internet. WAP uses an XML (eXtensible Markup Language) syntax called WML (Wireless Markup Language).

WAP webpages can only be viewed by WAP enabled mobile phones and WAP compatible web browsers. Current Web browsers such as Internet Explorer and Netscape are not yet able to view these pages. You will need to use a specially configured browser to see WML webpages.

We have installed the necessary software on our webservers to enable WML and WMLScript to be served from our web hosting accounts.

Password Protected Directories

Restrict access to certain areas of web sites, configure as many usernames, groups and passwords as required. Applications include sites where membership is required to view certain content or the creation of an extranet. Password protected directories require authentication using a username and password before files from them can be downloaded via the web. Please note, this facility does not work in conjunction with Frontpage Extensions.

Modperl for Apache

Apache web server for vastly increased performance over standard CGI. The Apache/Perl integration project brings together the full power of the Perl programming language and the Apache HTTP server. Advantages of mod_perl: Writes Apache modules entirely in Perl. Save the overhead of starting an external interpreter, i.e. the penalty of Perl start-up time. Allows you to easily do things that are more difficult or impossible in regular CGI programs,such as running sub requests. Allows you to have full access to the inner workings of the web server and can intervene at any stage of request-processing.

OpenSSL Secure Web

SSL is a protocol that transmits private documents through the Internet. It creates a secure connection between a client and a server over which any amount of data can be sent securely. SSL works by using a private key to encrypt data transferred over the secure connection. Please note: this feature requires that you have an IP based hosting plan.

View real-time usage statistics for your web sites, see how many people are visiting your sites, where they come from, what search keywords they use to find you and more. Your can access statistics for your sites via your control panel.
